Yemen's attacks on ships in the Red Sea have recently attracted the attention of the world. The experts on this panel will tell us more about the recent developments, provide us with context of the war and humanitarian crisis in Yemen since 2015 and discuss obstacles as well as ways forward to peace and justice. The speakers are intimately familiar with the situation in Yemen and will draw attention to the impact of conflict on the population.
This panel is part of the Leiden University teach-in series on Palestine and Israel Challenging Myths and Exceptions.

Speakers
- Jamal Badr is an expert on the Yemen conflict. He has worked for civil society organisations in Yemen and outside the country, in the fields of youth, development and public health.
- Marina de Regt is Associate Professor at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She specializes in gender and migration between Yemen and the Horn of Africa, and has published extensively about these topics.
- Kawkab Al-Thaibani is an expert and analyst in advocacy, communication, and gender dynamics within the MENA region. She is also a dedicated human rights and peace advocate. She founded two grassroots organizations focused on peace-building and women’s empowerment and was honored as a 2022 Vital Voices fellow.
