Meijers Lecture Hilde Wermink and Jim Been (in English)
'Do prison sanctions reduce crime and at what cost?'
Imprisonment is typically the most severe sentence that can be imposed. The general assumption is that imprisonment controls crime, because it incapacitates the offender, and should deter offenders from committing further crimes. During this Meijers Lecture, Hilde and Jim will share new empirical research findings using econometric techniques and discuss the effects of prison sanctions on criminal and economic behaviour.
