The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies hosts a panel of Grotius scholars discussing the role of international law in the ongoing Israel/Hamas war, and its enforcement before domestic and international/regional courts. This panel kicks off the International Law in an Era of Crises Discussion Series organized by the Grotius Centre.
The inaugural panel discussion on 15 December will include presentations from four scholars of the Grotius Centre, who will each explore legal questions and the status of ongoing and potential litigation efforts relevant to the Israel/Hamas war: Associate Professor Mamadou Hébié will discuss how the International Court of Justice has addressed the situation in Israel and Palestine in the past, and the upcoming Advisory Opinion on the legality of Israel’s occupation; Assistant Professor Giulia Pinzauti will reflect on the ongoing proceedings before the International Criminal Court; Professor William Schabas will consider the parties’ claims of genocide; and Professor Helen Duffy will conclude with a presentation on the challenges and opportunities of strategic litigation before domestic and regional courts.
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session. The event will be moderated by Associate Professor Joe Powderly.
