On December 1, 1924 professor Jean Philippe Vogel founded the Society Kern Institute in order to establish the Kern Institute, an institute of Indian archeology at the University of Leiden. The Kern Institute opened its doors in April 1925 and grew in the following decades. The society under the current name of Vereniging Vrienden van het Instituut Kern (VVIK) or ‘Society of Friends of the Kern Institute’ still flourishes. This year, on December 1, the society celebrates its 100-year anniversary.

This will be celebrated with a full-day symposium on Friday, November 29, titled:

Celebrating Dutch Indology - 100 Years of Friends of the Kern Institute

Six speakers will give their perspective on the past, present and future of Dutch Indology. After the symposium, we will jointly raise the glass during festive drinks. The program and locations can be found on the website: https://www.instituutkern.nl/agenda/3517/?lang=en

Please send an email to secr.vvik@gmail.com and let us know:

1. whether you will attend the symposium, and

2. whether you will attend the drinks.
