During the last thirty years of his lifetime Tolstoy was silenced by the Russian Church and State for his criticism on these institutions. He was even excommunicated, but that did not prevent him from suggesting in his books a new vision on an interfaith religion, as a foundation of world peace.
Unfortunately, these works were forbidden in Russia but transferred and translated abroad, where they had strong impact on people like Gandhi, Schweitzer and the worldwide Peace Movements during the interbellum and later on peaceful efforts of Martin Luther King for freedom and equality.
Sieuwert Haverhoek, invited by the Interfaith Committee is a Translator of the forbidden works of Lev Tolstoy. He will come to LUC to explain the spiritual development of Lev Tolstoy towards a worldview which is more than ever relevant at the present time of global uncertainties about sustainability as well as political and religious controversies.
