The corona and energy crisis, coupled with climate change and drastic social transitions such as an imminent aging of society. These are but a few trends that all have repercussions on how we - not just as anthropologists - think about the future of our education and research. Corona forced us to long-distance lectures and marked the further rise of big tech in the educational sector. There was a lot of talk, even now, about how sustainable the campus of the future could and should be, and whether workshops and long-distance flights to fieldwork sites should still prevail, now that it can also be done via zoom or MS teams. And what will the campus of the future do with our ideas about diversity, are there opportunities now that we can also reach the farthest corners digitally or does this also exclude some, usually the most vulnerable, again.
The 2nd Leiden Anthropological Conference
At the second Leiden Anthropologists' Congress, we will peer into our crystal ball and together we will not only think about the much-acclaimed Campus of the Future, but also look for one with a future. What can we contribute to a future-proof academy as anthropologists with feelers in society, and with our knowledge of pedagogies from elsewhere? We invite the entire Leiden anthropological community, alumni and friends of the institute to exchange ideas with us through a program of plenary lectures, workshops and roundtable discussions.
