The faculty will offer an additional training for teachers, focused on inclusive education: ''Inclusive Classroom: Difficult Conversations & Situations''. We notice that the classes are becoming more diverse and therefore more support, knowledge and tools will be offered to lecturers about inclusive teaching. There is currently a module for inclusive teaching within the BKO, but because not every lecturer has followed it (recently) and because this subject requires a lot of attention, time and repetition, an extra training session is offered to lecturers within the FdR.
This training has been developed by teachers for teachers. The training is given by two lecturers Aayushi Shah and Rebecca Dawson who have a lot of experience with diverse classrooms and inclusive teaching. During the training they will give many practical examples and focus on sharing concrete tips and tools for difficult conversations and situations in a more diverse classroom.
The training session ‘Inclusive Classroom: Difficult Conversations and Situations’ is designed to prepare teachers to tackle classroom discussions and situations that have the potential to be difficult or uncomfortable. It provides tools and recommendations for anticipated conversations on potentially sensitive topics, as well as for unforeseen hot moments in class.
The session discusses recognising diversity in our classrooms, the relevance and importance of inclusivity in our teaching, and covers the concept of safe spaces. Both students and teachers should feel secure to confront subjects or issues that may make them uncomfortable, and this training aims to promote awareness and provide tools for creating and maintaining such spaces.
This training is additional. It is not an official part of the BKO and does not apply for obtaining your BKO certificates. It is intended for teachers who are interested in this subject, who would like to learn more about it and stay up-to-date on the latest developments and tools within Inclusive Teaching.
