Social safety refers to a working climate in which employees feel free to express their opinions and do not fear humiliation or intimidation by colleagues or superiors. This is a necessary condition for effective cooperation, learning and performance. How does one achieve such a socially safe working environment? Which leadership can contribute to this? During this session, Sandra Groeneveld, Professor of Public Management at the Institute of Public Administration, shares insights from scientific research. Based on examples from the field, tips will be given for promoting social safety in your own work environment.
About the lecturer
Sandra Groeneveld is Professor of Public Management at the Institute of Public Administration of Leiden University. In the Leiden Leadership Centre she works together with colleagues on the exchange between science and practice in the field of leadership in the public domain. In various managerial roles she also tries to contribute to diversity, inclusiveness and social safety as key issues in the organisation of science. For example, she is a member of the KNAW advisory committee for prevention of undesirable behaviour in science and a board member of the National Network of Female Professors (LNVH).
