Binding Study Advice (BSA)
Bachelor’s students at Leiden University receive a Binding Study Advice (BSA). This means they must complete enough credits (EC) in the first year of their bachelor’s programme in order to continue to the next year. Some study programmes also have additional requirements that students must meet.
Requirements for the BSA
To receive a positive BSA, students are required to complete sufficient credits (EC) in the first year of their bachelor’s programme:
- Full-time students: 45 EC
- Part-time students: 30 EC
Some study programmes impose additional requirements, such as having to pass a specific course. The Course and Examination Regulations (OER) of the study programme will state whether there are any additional requirements. The Regulations on the Binding Study Advice give more information on:
- The study advice (binding and non-binding) that students receive during their bachelor’s programme
- The requirements that students must meet in order to receive a positive advice
- The procedure relating to exceptional personal (or other) circumstances
- Exceptions
- Transitional provisions
More information about the BSA can be found on the ‘Students’ website.
