What is gamification?
Gamification is a way to make courses more interactive, improve learning and stimulate students to come to class well prepared. It’s not about playing Mario, but about how you can give formative feedback (for example by using online home-made card games) and stimulate engagement (for example by using levels, rewards, and competition).
Workshops
The first workshop is meant as an accessible introduction for everyone, while the second workshop is for those who want to implement it in their own course.
1. Introductory workshop (Friday 4 November)
On Friday 4 November Martijn will give an interactive introduction into gamification. You will experience gamification yourself, understand the framework behind it, learn about best practices and have the opportunity to ask questions. Time and place: 15.15-16.45. Old Observatory, Leiden, room A007.
2. Follow-up workshop (Friday 18 November)
If you got excited about gamification, this follow-up workshop is for you! Based on additional reading material, you’ll prepare a draft gamification set-up for your course, to be presented and discussed with other educators. Martijn will provide feedback so you’ll be sure to have a solid plan to really start implementing gamification. If you are unsure you want to join, you can also sign up after the first workshop. Time and place: 15.00-17.00. Old Observatory, Leiden, room A007
