Web hosting and domain names
If you wish to start a project site for a temporary Leiden University project, or if you need a new domain name, please apply to the Functional Web Management department.
Web hosting
Our objective is for all web pages of institutes, units and projects that fall fully under Leiden University to appear on the University website. This means that all web pages are given a fixed position within the website structure, and that they should meet set format criteria (according to the University house style) and use the University content management system (Hippo CMS).
However, some cases do require customisation. This mostly applies to temporary websites and organisations that are not fully integrated within Leiden University. Think of partnerships, allied institutes, conference websites, websites about construction projects, etc.
In such cases, we advise you to first contact the editor-in-chief of your organisational unit. He and she can help you explore your options in consultation with the SC&M web advisor and the functional web management department.
Domain names
The Functional Web Management department assesses applications for domain names in collaboration with the Strategic Communication & Marketing department. In this way we can avoid a unit applying for a name that may also be useful for other purposes, such as the sub-domain projecten.universiteitleiden.nl, and we can guarantee a uniform appearance and good findability for all websites.
In some cases, you may find it useful to have your own domain name, such as www.hortusleiden.nl. We will gladly help you explore your options.
If you have any editorial questions, please consult the sections on writing for the web, news announcements or using images. You can also contact your web editorial team.
