Vacancy: PhD Representative
As our PhD representative, you are the point of contact for PhD candidates from Leiden Law School’s various institutes and departments. You gather input on ways to further improve our PhD research. The PhD representative also attends the meetings of the Research Board.
The Research Board is responsible for the faculty’s research policy and comprises the Director of Research and the programme coordinators of the various research programmes. The PhD deans also regularly attend these meetings. You are responsible for ensuring that the voice of the faculty's PhD candidates is heard at these meetings.
The tasks of the Research Board include: policy formation for the PhD track and research; advising on the organisation, integration and coordination of scientific research; quality control of scientific research; development of strategic research policy; and, together with the education boards, the relationship between research and education.
The position of PhD representative is a good way to use your knowledge and experience as a PhD candidate to further shape our faculty’s research policy. It is also an enjoyable and low-threshold way to learn more about the administrative side of academia.
We are looking for a new PhD representative to start on 1 September 2025. It would be advantageous for the next PhD representative to have proficiency in Dutch, as the research board meetings are usually conducted in Dutch.
The appointment is for a period of two years. A proper handover of tasks will be arranged.
