New procedure for collaboration with the fossil fuel industry
Collaboration with the fossil fuel industry is the subject of debate. Leiden University is therefore introducing a new Procedure for Collaboration with the Fossil Fuel Industry on 1 March. This standard procedure will be used to evaluate new research collaborations with the fossil fuel industry. This will ensure Leiden University makes transparent decisions about partners from the fossil fuel industry who have a negative impact on the climate.
Assessing new collaborations
From 1 March 2025, new collaboration initiatives with the fossil fuel industry must be submitted to the Fossil Fuel Collaboration Advice Desk to be assessed. If the potential partner is a company that does not follow the Paris Agreement, the Fossil Fuel Industry Collaboration Committee will assess ethical aspects of the collaboration.
Staff wishing to start new collaborations with the fossil fuel industry should consult the flowchart to see which steps to take.
