Exposition KOG: Cinquecento Medusae (500 jellyfish)

4 March 2025

What do jellyfish have to do with climate change? You can find out from 24 March onwards, by walking under hundreds of jellyfish at Leiden Law School’s Kamerlingh Onnes Building.

Raising awareness

Organised by Leiden University Green Office (LUGO) and our university's central sustainability team, the Cinquecento Medusae (500 jellyfish) exhibition by artist Rosanna Baledda aims to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on our oceans. It does so by alerting the public to a phenomenon caused by climate change and marine pollution: the increasing number of jellyfish and the disappearance of biodiversity.

Rampant multiplication

Jellyfish are very beautiful, as you can see at the exhibition, but their rampant multiplication is a symptom of a serious problem. The exhibition also highlights the point of view of sea turtles, who love eating jellyfish but confuse them with certain types of plastic in the ocean.
