Control your data: use Signal instead of WhatsApp
Leiden University does not support WhatsApp because the security and privacy of your data cannot be guaranteed. Teams is a safe alternative for university communication, as is Signal.
Teams is supported by Leiden University because it is included in the Microsoft 365 licence. Use Teams for chats, messages and video calls, and to store and share documents and data. If Teams is not working, use Signal. You can find Signal in the app store on your mobile device.
Control your data
In Signal, your data remains private, and chats are fully encrypted with minimal metadata. This means you control your data. In WhatsApp, your data is shared with Meta and used for adverts, so do not use WhatsApp for any university communication whatsoever. The same applies to Telegram.
