New cleaning services provider and cleaning schedule
Following a European tendering procedure, Leiden University has contracted a new cleaning services provider as of 1 January 2025 for a maximum of eight years. This new contract will result in adjustments to the cleaning schedule. These are due to changing circumstances such as increased remote working and the announced cuts.
Summary of the cleaning schedule
- Offices are cleaned once a week on a set day, which may vary across departments;
- Meeting rooms and venues are cleaned three times a week;
- Washrooms in the buildings are cleaned several times a day, depending on their location;
- The number of follow-up rounds has been reduced by one;
- On weekends only the study areas and washrooms that are open are cleaned.
The University Services Department is in charge of the contract and is working with the new and outgoing suppliers to ensure a smooth transition. We’re pleased to say that nearly all the cleaning staff have transferred to the new contractor. The process was managed carefully. The necessary changes to the schedule mean that adjustments have been made to the locations and tasks assigned to the cleaning staff. The University Services Department is doing all it can to support the further implementation of the new contract.
