Happy Holidays Drinks and Christmas market huge success
We had a full house at the Happy Holidays Drinks on Tuesday 17 December. Combining the event with a Christmas market where staff could choose their own gift proved to be a huge success. Various Leiden retailers set up stalls displaying their products; bookstore Kooyker, Olala Chocola, concept store Klaar (fashion accessories), Leidsche Koek, brewery Pronck and cheese shop De Fransoos all took part. Not forgetting Scholars for Scholars Leiden, the charity to which you can donate your Christmas gift this year.
Christmas 'stars'
But before the Christmas market was officially opened, Dean Suzan Stoter had a few words for those present. After briefly reflecting on the past year, she shone a spotlight on a few of our colleagues. These faculty ‘stars’ were called up one by one. First, Sigrid van Wingerden (Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology) for all her efforts on the changes to the bachelor’s programme in Criminology. Next, Jurian Lock (institute of Tax Law and Economics) whose contract has been extended to the delight of his colleagues after he managed to attract extra funding. The spotlight then shifted to the team of the course Introduction to Civil Law (Stijn Voskamp, Lotte Kremers, Joska Lukkes, Jan van Staalduinen, Paula Stuurman and Bryan Verheul) who this year have already set to work on making the course ‘Inleiding Burgerlijk Recht’ Kernvisie-proof (Institute of Private Law). Finally, Annemarie Drahmann (Institute of Public Law) and Michael Klos (Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Law) were praised for their efforts to promote cooperation and synergy between members of the research programme: The Legitimacy and Effectiveness of Law & Governance in a World of Multilevel Jurisdictions. All those in the spotlight received a beautiful poinsettia, otherwise appropriately known as a Christmas star.
Our very own Santa Claus then declared the Christmas market open and the counters supplying the tokens to purchase gifts were swamped with eager ‘shoppers’. All colleagues who had signed up for the event received five tokens to spend on a product of their choice or (partly) donate to Scholars for Scholars.
Gift voucher
All colleagues who hadn’t signed up by 13 December can still collect a gift voucher between 6 and 31 January 2025 in room B4.36 at the KOG building.
