Working together for a safer workplace - 11 - 15 November inspection of electrical devices

5 November 2024

To enhance (fire) safety in our buildings, an inspection will take place from 11 to 15 November 2024. During this week, our Facilities Department team will help ensure a safe and compliant work environment by checking the use of (private) electrical devices that haven’t been approved by them. This applies to all spaces, including offices, meeting rooms, and storage areas, across the following buildings: Gorlaeus Building, Snellius, Huygens, Oort and the Sylvius.

Devices that aren’t approved by the Facilities Department and are found during the inspection will be safely set aside. These can be picked up until 1 December 2024 at the Expedition in the Gorlaeus Building (GM.0) for you to take home. If you work in the Sylvius Building, you can pick up devices on the first floor near the goods lift. Any devices not picked up by this date will be sustainably disposed of.

Permitted or not permitted?

  • Permitted: Electrical devices in the pantries managed by the Facilities Department, such as coffee machines, electric kettles, refrigerators, dishwashers and microwaves.
  • Not permitted: (Private) electrical appliances, stoves, electric hobs and sandwich toasters et cetera.

Ready to take action?

To help make the inspection quick and easy, we encourage you to take proactive steps. If you have any devices that may not meet the criteria, feel free to bring them home or drop them off in advance at the Expedition in the Gorlaeus Building (GM.0). If you work in the Sylvius Building, you can hand in devices on the first floor near the goods lift.

Key dates

  • 11 – 15 November: Inspection by the Facilities Department.
  • 1 December: Deadline for collecting any set-aside devices. After this date, they will be sustainably recycled.
