Frequently asked questions about the migration to Windows 11

18 July 2024

From Monday 29 July, the ISSC will be migrating all Windows laptops and desktops for the Faculty of Humanities to Windows 11. You received an email about this from IFZ on July 18th. Below are all frequently asked questions about migrating to Windows 11.

Mac

Does my iMac/MacBook need to be migrated as well?

No, the migration is for Windows desktops and laptops, not for Mac devices.

Laptop

The migration team will be here from 31 July, but I will go on holiday the week before that. Can I hand in my laptop by then?

Yes, you can hand in your laptop to Lynn de Frank of IFZ (Herta Mohr, room 2.34) or leave it with your secretary

Can my laptop be migrated after the rush at the beginning of September?

Yes, you may then hand in your laptop at another location, where the migration team will be working at that time.

I will be handing in my laptop, but if I get back from my holiday the migration team will already be gone. Can I collect my laptop somewhere else in that case?

If you let us know about this when handing in your laptop, Lynn de Frank of IFZ will collect your laptop from the migration team and you will be able to pick up your laptop after your holiday.

Is it possible to leave my laptop with the migration team during the entirity of my holiday?

Of course, the laptops will be kept safely under lock and key.

Is my laptop too old to be migrated? The number on the sticker is no longer legible.

For Windows 10 devices, go to Settings via the start menu, then go to System and click on About (at the bottom). The number next to Device Name is the same as the number on the sticker. Based on that number, we can find out how old the laptop is.
