Alternative entrance to KOG Building from 10 June

28 May 2024

From Monday 10 June onwards, there will be no access to the entrance hall of the KOG Building due to renovations. The entrance hall will be closed until around the beginning of August. During this period, anyone arriving at or leaving the KOG Building will need to use the alternative entrance next to the Education Information Centre (OIC). Please bear in mind that this entrance is not wheelchair accessible as there are several steps at this entrance. Disabled access is available at the service entrance on Langebrug (see image).

Renovations
The renovation work will be carried out in two stages and will take ten weeks in total. The schedule is subject to change. The teaching and events calendar has, of course, been factored into the schedule.

Stage 1: Repairing foundation of front porch (10-28 June 2024)
This is part of a project led by the university’s Real Estate department. During the first stage of the renovations, the foundation at the front porch of the entrance hall will be relayed.

Disruption and precautionary measures

  • Piling: In the week of 17 June, there may be noise pollution as a result of piling activities. The library will be especially affected by this. However, hollow piles will be used as this causes less noise pollution than solid piles.
  • Floor removal: In the week of 24 June, the floor of the front porch will be removed using a pneumatic drill. This will also cause noise pollution.

Stage 2: Upgrading service desks in entrance hall (early July-early August)
The next stage of the renovation work will then begin. All service departments, including Reception, the Service Desk and the ISSC Helpdesk will be placed next to each other. As a result, the ISSC Helpdesk (currently located next to the Grotius Lecture Hall) will be moved to where the other service desks now are. This will create a central service point that enables us to provide more efficient services, which are better aligned with the needs of our employees and students.

Temporary facilities:
While the renovations are being carried out, the square in front of the main entrance will be fenced off and a container of materials will be installed. The entrance hall will be closed off with a dust barrier in order to keep disruption to a minimum.

  • Access: LU Card checks at the temporary entrance
  • Reception: temporary Reception area at the Education Information Centre (OIC) desk
  • The Service Desk will remain in its current location until 28 June; from 1 July onwards it will be located in A0.02
  • The tea and coffee pantry will remain in use throughout the renovation works

Thank you for your patience and understanding for any inconvenience caused by the renovation work, such as noise pollution in the library and restaurant. If you have any questions or comments, contact law.facilities@law.leidenuniv.nl.
