Application round for LUF Praesidium Libertatis Grant and Gratama Jubilee Gift has started
The application procedure and grant conditions for the LUF Praesidium Libertatis Grant 2024 and the Gratama Jubilee Gift have been published.
LUF Praesidium Libertatis
The LUF Praesidium Libertatis Grant of €75,000 is awarded to a young talented researcher who is deemed capable of (further) developing innovative and original research ideas.
Conditions
- The applicant has a PhD, has a paid appointment of at least 0.4 FTE at Leiden University or the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) at the time of application and during the course of the research, and obtained a PhD no more than ten years ago, i.e. on or after 1 July 2014. (An extension scheme applies, see the detailed conditions for more information).
- The proposed project concerns innovative research that will be carried out by the applicant if approved.
- Entries received after the deadline will not be eligible. This also applies to incomplete applications and applications that do not meet the conditions.
Two applications that have the support of the faculty board can be submitted per faculty. The Committee for Research Funding will therefore make a selection if more than two applications are submitted to it. Faculty employees can send their application, consisting of a C.V., project description (see this page) and budget, to m.c.belderbos@hum.leidenuniv.nl no later than Wednesday the 1st of May.

Gratama Jubilee Gift 2025
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Gratama Foundation, it is making a LUF subsidy of € 100,000 available: the Gratama Jubilee Gift 2025. The subsidy is intended for an interfaculty and/or interdisciplinary project that fits in with one of the nine interdisciplinary programs of Leiden University.
Conditions
- The project must demonstrably fit in with one of the nine interdisciplinary programs of Leiden University;
- The project preferably involves scientists from at least two faculties.
- Applicants must have a paid appointment of at least 0.4 FTE at Leiden University or the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) at the time of the application and during the implementation of the intended project;
- An applicant may not be involved in more than one project proposal.
- A project proposal may not be submitted to more than one faculty in the pre-selection.
- Entries received after the deadline will not be eligible. This also applies to incomplete applications and applications that do not meet the conditions.
