Open call: submit a research proposal for Lowlands Science
Experience a psychedelic trip in virtual reality, make music with plants, or talk to a robot: every year a variety of interesting research projects is carried out at Lowlands Science, the interactive research programme at Lowlands Festival.
Want to join in this year and put your research in the spotlight? Lowlands is calling on researchers from all universities and research institutions to submit a proposal.
During the festival enthusiastic visitors participate in experiments in which they learn something and you as a researcher gain data and attention for your research. You can use the designated Lowlands Science site and the (voluntary and anonymous) cooperation of 50,000 festivalgoers.

Lowlands 2024 will be on 16, 17 and 18 August. Submit your research proposal by 31 March 2024 at the latest. The university offers support in both submitting your proposal and conducting the research, as well as communication to raise awareness of your experiment. Would you like to submit a proposal or find out more? Please contact Marieke Epping, science communications adviser. Read all the information about the open call.
Leiden University at Lowlands
At the previous edition of Lowlands, a team of Leiden psychologists collected data for their research: how do festivalgoers experience a virtual trip? Rector Hester Bijl also volunteered as a test subject.
