Staying healthy through the dark months
With the new academic year in full swing, autumn is now on our doorstep. The evenings are getting darker and the days are getting shorter. So how can we stay fit and healthy during these months when we are all so busy?
Exercise and sport not only keep you physically healthy, they also increase concentration, energy levels and endurance. Physical exercise also helps to counter unhealthy stress levels and negative feelings, and helps us recover sooner (source: Trimbos).
The University therefore encourages all staff to stay fit and healthy and offers a number of interesting options:
- Pilates classes running from 16 October to 4 December, every Monday after work. The perfect combination of exercise and relaxation to improve posture, strengthen muscles and reduce stress. Taking part is free and on a walk-in basis (so you don’t have to register). For more information see: Free Pilates classes for staff in Plexus - Leiden University.
- You can offset the cost of your sports subscription at the University Sports Centre or SportCity against your gross salary. There’s a SportCity just around the corner, at Steenschuur 9! Both sports centres offer a wide range of group classes, individual sports and group sports. For the full range, go to: Sportschool Leiden Steenschuur | SportCity & Sports on offer – USC Leiden.
- Do you have any questions relating to your health and work? Even though you have not reported ill, you can still make an appointment to talk about prevention and your working conditions with our University doctor. See University doctor - Leiden University
