Social safety: What can you do yourself?
Have you experienced unacceptable behaviour at work? It’s something that can be difficult to talk about it. If you experience or witness inappropriate or unacceptable, there are several steps you can take: identify the behaviour, speak about it and, if necessary, ask for support and assistance in discussing it. You can go to your manager, your HR adviser or the independent confidential counsellors. Our updated Social safety page provides all information about what you can do yourself and the helplines to turn to. In addition:
- A new round of The Active Bystander workshop will start soon. This interactive workshop teaches employees to name and discuss undesirable behaviour. It provides tools for dealing with unacceptable behaviour, including behaviour that might have become normalised over time. For more information, read here.
- You can also get help from a ‘sparring partner’ who can help you to speak out and initiate a discussion. The ‘conversational skills coaching’ consists of three steps, based on the most recent insights in social and behavioural psychology, conversational skills, and years of practical experience. Short and to the point, so you can move on. Sessions last a maximum of two hours. More information is available at Speak your mind! Contact a 'sparring partner'.
