Staff Ombuds Officer publishes annual report
Leiden University has had a staff ombuds officer since 1 May 2022, Marjan van Dasselaar. In her first year she met staff members working at all levels of the organisation. ‘Everyone was clearly willing to speak and the discussions were open and valuable’, says Van Dasselaar. ‘And the contact with the confidential counsellors and the Ombuds Officer for Students was most helpful and constructive.’ Van Dasselaar received reports from staff about incidents relating to a safe environment this past year. Having spoken to many people, she has been able to gain a first impression of the work environment at the university.
Based on her experiences Van Dasselaar has written a report presenting a description of her powers, a summary of her work during the period covered, an outline of the number of reported incidents and the nature of the underlying problems. She also makes a number of recommendations. The report can be found on the website. ‘I recently discussed the report with the Executive Board and will discuss it with the University Council at the start of July’, says Marjan. ‘Colleagues with any questions about the report can also contact me.’
