Speak your mind! Contact a 'sparring partner'

22 May 2023

Would you like to make your colleagues enthusiatic about one of your ideas, be more in control during your annual interview, or finally have your say during a meeting, but cannot seem to find the right words? The Sparring partners at Rechtdoorzee can help you speak up, and speak out.

Result

The sparring partners at Rechtdoorzee can help you discover what is holding you back from speaking out in a specific situation at work. You become more aware of your language, voice, and expression, so you are able to use them more effectively at a meeting or in a discussion. They can also advise you on how to make a setting or environment work for you. So it becomes easier for you to get your point across.

Quick and easy

The 'conversational skills coaching' consists of three steps, based on the most recent insights in social and behavioural psychology, conversational skills, and years of practical experience. Short and to the point – so you can move on to the next topic. The sessions only last a couple of hours and you decide when you would like to do them.

Together with a few other faculties, Leiden Law School has purchased a subscription for 24 coaching sessions. Eight of these sessions are allocated to our faculty. So don't wait too long before booking an appointment with the sparring partner of your choice!

This is how it works

  1. Before your appointment, you fill in a short questionnaire which helps focus on what you want to achieve with your sparring partner. You select the sparring partner you think is a good match for you. The list of sparring partners also shows which languages they speak.
  2. You have the basic help session which lasts maximum 60 minutes to ensure focus and effectiveness.
  3. You then apply what you practised in the basic help session during a discussion or situation at work.
  4. Finally, you have a follow-up appointment where you receive some additional tips so you will be even better prepared in the future.

Leiden University continues to build an open and learning organisation where students and staff feel at home and can make the most of their potential. We believe it is important you are able to express yourself, that your voice is heard, even if you have a dissenting opinion. This helps create momentum and change. It also helps prevent situations where you may not feel safe or in control.
