Leiden University launching peer groups for students who have experienced sexual harassment (register until 7 April)
We believe it is important to create a safe environment for students and staff. By signing the Amnesty International manifesto, the University has pledged its commitment to preventing sexual harassment. We would like to offer support to students who have had a negative experience.
If you know any students who have experienced sexual harassment, please tell them about the peer groups for students at Leiden University. They can share their experiences with their peers at these supervised meetings. As of April, the group will meet at a location outside the University and will receive guidance from experienced staff from Victim Support Netherlands. There is a Dutch-speaking and an English-speaking group.
What is peer contact?
Exchanging experiences and tools with others who have had similar experiences can be a great help in dealing with traumatic experiences. The power of peer contact is recognition and acknowledgement through the sharing of experiences. Fellow survivors can learn from one another. How did you cope, what issues did you encounter, and what can we draw strength from together? Peer contact facilitates mutual support and understanding.
How to register
Students can sign up till 7 April 17:00 via this online form. After April 7 they will be invited by Slachtofferhulp Nederland for an intake appointment. This will take place without the involvement of Leiden University. Questions may be directed to lotgenotencontact@slachtofferhulp.nl.
