Exhibition 'Unstable' at KOG
From 16 March to 11 May 2023, the Art Gallery Law School is holding an exhibition in the C wing: UNSTABLE. Works will be exhibited created by two Syrian artists Hanan Saif and Tarek Arabi, a couple who divide their time between Budapest and Leiden together with their young daughter.
Before fleeing the violence of the war to Hungary, Hanan and Tarek lived in Damascus. Hanan is currently doing a PhD at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Through her background, she has witnessed the general restrictions on freedom and more specifically the rights of women and children. She deals with these issues in her art. During her stay in Hungary lasting more than six years, she came to realise that these restrictions never completely disappear, but just change into other forms.
Tarek studied at the University of Damascus, and was subsequently awarded a PhD from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. He expresses his philosophy on Triplism in his art. Triplism is the space where a controlled dialogue between various elements is created that offers unexpected possibilities, opportunities, hesitations and probabilities, and as a result leads to the discovery of new unknown territories.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday 18 March at 17.00 in the C wing of the KOG. Everyone is welcome. R.S.V.P. artcommissonlawschool@law.leidenuniv.nl
