Purchases of property, plant and equipment are capitalized above a certain threshold. Purchases below this threshold are recognized as expenses in the year of purchase. Per 1 January 2023 these thresholds have increased. The increase consists of the following changes:

• Equipment: increased from €6.000 to €25.000
• Bulk purchases: increased from €50.000 to €200.000
• Scheduled maintenance: increased from €140.000 to €200.000

For the catering activities of the University Services Department and for the University Sports Centre we apply a threshold of €5.000 per purchase.

Please note: for capitalizations related to the closing of financial year 2022, the old thresholds are still applicable.
