In memoriam: Gabry Vanderveen
With disbelief and great sadness we have learned of the sudden death of our former colleague Gabry Vanderveen. Gabry passed away on 10 January at the age of 48.
At the time of her death, Gabry was an associate professor of Criminology at the Department of Law, Society & Crime of Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. She had previously received her doctorate from the same university for the thesis ‘Interpreting Fear, Crime, Risk and Unsafety. Conceptualisation and Measurement’.
From 2002 to 2014, Gabry was an assistant professor of Criminology at Leiden University’s Institute of Criminal Law & Criminology. During that time, she put her heart and soul into teaching and conducting research in the field of criminology. She was known for her enthusiasm, dedication and creativity. Her particular focus was on the use of visual data and methods within criminological research. Throughout her time in Leiden and afterwards, many of us were touched by Gabry’s warm and loving attention to those around her. We will miss her greatly.
We wish Gabry’s family, friends, and colleagues in Rotterdam much strength in dealing with this sudden and immense loss
