Ethics and Data Committee is looking for a new member
The Ethics and Data Committee is looking for new members!
The main task of the committee is to assess research proposals based on criteria of ethically responsible academic conduct. The committee also handles questions regarding the management of (sensitive) data and the GDPR regulations. Ethical assessment is becoming the norm in the academic world and is applicable when it concerns the privacy of research participants, aspects of human dignity when conducting interviews, mutual consent obtainment, and possible conflicts of interests with third flow of funds research. Sometimes ethical assessment is made mandatory by external parties, such as the NWO. Employees can also submit a request for advice without such an obligation.
The committee currently consists of Miranda Sentse (Criminology, chair), Jacqueline Wessel (Private Law, secretary), Thomas van Beek (Information Management, privacy officer), Carsten Stahn (Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, member), Kim Fairley (Economics, member), and Aart Hendriks (Constitutional and Administrative Law, member).
Due to the departure of several members, we are looking for one or two new members. We strive to be a good reflection and representation of the Faculty. Because of the diversity in requests, it is also desirable to have a diverse committee representing the bread field of Leiden Law School. As a member of the committee, you participate in monthly meetings during which the submitted proposals are discussed and assessed based on data management and ethics in the broadest sense of the word. The interdisciplinary discussions on the various aspects of research are not only very enjoyable to participate in but also very inspiring and enlightening.
