SEA team to relocate from Gravensteen to the P.J. Veth building in 2024

20 October 2022

It is a beautiful building that dates from the late twelfth century. At a time when wood was the preferred building material, a tower made of stone was built next to the Count of Holland’s residence: ‘Gravensteen’. Unfortunately, the many corridors and stairs make the building as impractical as it is characteristic. A decision has therefore been taken to relocate Student and Educational Affairs (SEA) staff currently based here to the P.J. Veth building in 2024.

The P.J. Veth building was renovated in 2017 as part of the Humanities Campus project. The sustainable Humanities Campus with renovated buildings, a green space and new building is expected to be completed in 2029. The P.J. Veth is home to various departments of the Faculty of Humanities, such as the Institute for Philosophy, the Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA), the Digital labs and the Information Management and Facilities Department (IFZ).

Student and Educational Affairs (SEA) staff based at Gravensteen are expected to move to the P.J. Veth building in the first half of 2024. The introduction of the University’s workplace norm will mean that more space will become available in the building. Discussions are already in progress regarding the impact this will have on the Institute for Philosophy, the ACPA, the IFZ and the Digital labs. The details of the design and layout of office space and meeting and collaboration spaces for SEA are not yet known. More information will follow in due course.
