Hall of fame 2021: Our students and staff in the spotlight
2021 saw many prizes awarded to staff and students of Leiden Law School. Grants for new research projects were also awarded and our staff were invited to particpate on committees or recognised in other ways too. An overview of this year’s achievements is given below.

Fields Medal for Leiden Professor of Number Theory Manjul Bhargava
Leiden Professor of Number Theory Manjul Bhargava has been awarded a Fields Medal, widely regarded as the Nobel Prize for Maths. Bhargava is a professor in Princeton, and since 2010 has also been the holder of the Stieltjes chair in Leiden.

Simply a phenomenal article
On Friday 20 January the Meijers Awards were presented for the best article published in 2016 written by a researcher in the final phase of their PhD research. The winners received a certificate and prize money to be put towards their research.

Leiden University 2nd Best in the 2021 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s largest moot court competition. The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. This year more than 570 law schools from across the world participated.

Eveline Crone new ERC Vice-President
Eveline Crone, Professor of Neurocognitive Development Psychology at Leiden University, has been elected as the new Vice President of the European Research Council (ERC). She will be in charge of ERC activities in the domain of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Jo Hermans wins EPS Gero Thomas Commemorative Medal
The European Physical Society (EPS) has awarded the Gero Thomas Commemorative Medal 2017 to Jo Hermans, emeritus Professor in Physics. He wins the award for his role as Science Editor of Europhysics News and his numerous contributions to education and public understanding of physics.

Stans Prize 2009
